Promoting clothes recycling and blood donation
Does anyone know how a used clothes recycling plant works? A group of employees in Menarini Spain’s Medicine Department can now answer yes to this question. They visited the Roba Amiga facility in Sant Esteve Sesrovires at the end of September 2023. This is where the cooperative for the Catalonia Region implements its mission of streamlining the second-hand clothes handling process. The aim is to minimise textile waste while creating job opportunities in clothes recycling for people at risk of social exclusion.
The facility was not the only leg on the awareness-raising "tour". The participants also got the chance to visit Roba Amiga’s store in Sant Adrià de Besòs, a commercial outlet promoting ethical fashion and part of the Caritas Moda-RE project.
An initiative that goes hand in hand with the red bus run by the Banc de Sang i Teixits (Blood and Tissue Bank) which was parked in the car park of the Badalona offices for one day in mid-October. That day coincided with the date of the fifth blood donation drive. The 28 volunteers took it in turns to sit down during the morning and donate a total of 13,16 litres of blood between them.
