Putting a stop to gender-based violence: education for prevention
There are millions of women in Italy who have been subjected to some form of abuse during their lifetime. This phenomenon is often recounted through stereotypes and inappropriate language in the media. A practice that can pave the way to yet more gender-based violence.
We need to increase awareness about the problem, to help media specialists report these dramatic incidents in an appropriate manner. This is why the Menarini Group has made an unconditional contribution to the project Stop alle violenze di genere: formare per fermare (Putting a stop to gender-based violence: education for prevention).
The initiative includes a series of educational courses for reporters in different cities throughout Italy. Hundreds have already attended talks given by magistrates, psychologists, criminologists, doctors and communication experts. All professionals with in-depth knowledge of violence against women, who provided the reporters with the tools to address the issue in the appropriate manner.
